MANILA, Philippines – Alleged trafficker and doomsday preacher Apollo Quiboloy will be transferred to the Pasig City jail on Wednesday, November 27.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing that the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159 ordered Quiboloy’s transfer from the PNP custodial center to a regular jail. Fajardo said the court issued the order on November 22.
Fajardo explained that even though Quiboloy’s motion for house or hospital arrest was denied, the court ordered that Quiboloy undergo medical assessment, which was the reason why he was placed under temporary PNP custody.
“Dahil remember po, temporary lang naman po ‘yong kanyang detention dito sa Crame and since tapos na po ‘yong medical assessment at nakapag-submit na po tayo ng compliance sa korte. So there is no more reason for him to stay po dito sa Crame po,” the PNP spokesperson said.
(Because you have to remember, his detention here in Crame is only temporary, and since the medical assessment is done and we had submitted a compliance to the court. So there is no reason for him to stay here in Crame.)
Quiboloy, who was in the hospital after he was granted a medical furlough, will go straight to Pasig City jail, according to Fajardo. The alleged trafficker is expected to be in the jail at around 4 pm, the PNP spokesperson added.
Only a few persons deprived of liberty (PDL) had been allowed to be placed under the PNP custody while their case proceedings progress. Quiboloy and Alice Guo, a high-profile person tagged in alleged crimes linked to Philippine offshore gaming operators, were initially detained at the custodial center. Courts later ordered their transferred to regular jails under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), like any ordinary citizen under trial.
“The BJMP is ready and on standby anytime Mr. Quiboloy will be transferred to the custody of Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory. We are currently coordinating with the PNP for the said transfer today,” BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera told Rappler.
“The BJMP will ensure that no VIP or special treatment will be made to Mr. Quiboloy. He will undergo the standard intake process of a PDL and he will be treated with the same rights and privileges as with an ordinary PDL,” he added.
Quiboloy, who founded the Davao-based Kingdom of Jesus Christ, faces a trafficking case at the Pasig City court. Aside from this, he also faces separate cases of sexual abuse of a minor and child abuse in a Quezon City court, and is also wanted in the United States for sexual trafficking.
After evading arrest for months, Quiboloy was finally arrested on September 8, and was placed under PNP custody. – Rappler.com
