Before we wrap up the year, let us unwrap some of the biggest lessons from the 2024 Super Election Year! Watch it here.
In May 2024, LENTE gathered over 100 election experts, policymakers, civil society leaders, and election management bodies for the Regional Forum on the 2025 Philippine Elections.
During the forum, we asked the big question:
What Can We Learn from the 2024 Super Election Year?
Seven months later, we’re back to answer this important question in a special year-end episode of May Papel Ka! (dahil #SATINangEleksyon) video podcast – a fitting conclusion to our final episode for 2024.
Why was 2024 a historic year for elections?
This year saw billions of voters from over 60 countries — representing nearly half the world’s population — heading to the polls for national and local elections.
The “2024 super election year” showed that democratic institutions can go beyond enduring challenges to performing effectively and offering opportunities for renewal. It highlighted the strength of electoral processes but also revealed serious concerns such as disinformation, political corruption, polarization, and declining public trust.
Amidst these challenges, this historic year of elections presented a wealth of insights and opportunities for innovation and reform. With the 2025 Philippine Elections just months away, there is no better time to learn from these experiences and adapt them to strengthen electoral processes at home.
We are honored to be joined by esteemed experts and advocates on elections and governance to talk about information integrity and the use of AI in elections, the use of technology in elections, abuse of state resources in elections, the role of election surveys, and electoral competitiveness, among others.
