MANILA, Philippines – Carl Tamayo set the most points scored by a Filipino Asian Quota import in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) in the Changwon LG Sakers’ 92-88 loss to the Seoul Samsung Thunders on Thursday, January 9.

Tamayo was unconscious from the field, shooting an ultra-efficient 17-of-19 clip, including a perfect 15-of-15 shooting from the two-point area to finish with a career-high 37 points, along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists in over 32 minutes.

His herculean efforts, however, all went for naught as Changwon suffered its third loss in four matches to start the new year, dropping to a 14-13 slate.

Kofi Cockburn powered Seoul to the victory with 24 points, while Tamayo’s Filipino counterpart Justin Gutang had his own efficient performance for the Thunders with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block.

For Changwon, Yang Jun-seok was the only other player to reach double figures aside from Tamayo as he put up 12 points.

Tamayo’s 37-point explosion surpassed SJ Belangel’s previous record of 36 markers, which he tallied just six days ago in the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus’ 114-77 blowout of the Thunders.

Following his career game, Tamayo’s scoring average rose to 14.6 points per outing, which is currently ranked 15th in the league. – Rappler.com
